One of the great inspiring moments of my life - and, in a way, the genesis of
Octopedal Arts - came on the day I caught an octopus with my bare hands in the Aegean. It was a perfect July afternoon on the island of
Sifnos, swimming in a
remote cove that we had hiked to, through hills that so startlingly resemble the high desert landscape here in Santa Fe...
A heart-pounding, lung-splitting chase ensued but, not to worry, the octopus was never harmed. They're fascinating, highly intelligent creatures.
This design is from an original drawing based on a Minoan
octopus pot. They liked octopi too.
